Hello everyone,I hope you have all enjoyed this winter! There’s always so much snow in Hokkaido. My hometown also gets a lot of snow, but we only get about a meter at a time. Then it usually all meltswithin a week and we have to wait until the next snow fall. The unending piles of snow here is almostmagical and it feels unreal. Soon most of the snow will be melting and we will be able to enjoy all ofthe different flowers Hokkaido has to offer. I’ve been staying active this winter by trying out differentrestaurants in Asahikawa with a few of my friends.My favorite place to go is a cat cafe near Asahikawastation. The cats there are very cute and the food is delicious.

My favorite part of Hokkaido’s winter is all of the different snow and ice festivals in the area. It’s always very exciting to see all ofthe different things that can be made from snow and ice. All of the people who make the snow sculptures are very skilled. This yearI have gone to even more snow festivals than last year. I was able to see the festivals in both Sapporo and Otaru. The ice lanternsin Otaru were beautiful. So my favorite festival, both this year and last, is the Ice Fall Festival in Sounkyo. I absolutely love the cavelike sculptures they create out of ice. Next year I hope to see even more festivals than I did this year.I hope you all are staying warm during the end of winter!

の故郷も雪はたくさん降りますが、一度に積もるのは1mほどです。また、1週間以内に再び降らなければ、たいてい解けてしまいます。北海道の途切れることなく降り積もる雪は、非現実的に感じます。もうすぐ雪は解け、北海道の様々な花が楽しめるようになります。私はこの冬、友人たちと旭川のレストランを食べ歩いて、アクティブに過ごしています。お気に入りの場所は、旭川駅近くの猫カフェです。猫はとても可愛いし、ご飯も美味しいです。
私が北海道の冬で一番好きなところは、この地域で行われる様々な雪と氷のお祭りです。雪や氷から様々なものが作られるのを見るのは、とても楽しいです。雪像を作る人たちは熟練のスキルを持っています。今年は小樽や札幌など、去年よりさらにたくさんの雪祭りに行きました。小樽の氷灯篭は美しかったですが、私の一番好きなお祭りは層雲峡の氷瀑まつりです。氷から作られる洞窟のような彫刻が大好きです。来年は、今年以上にたくさんのお祭りに参加したいと思います。
