オーストラリア出身のソフィア・コスタンティノ先生は、令和2年12月から阿武町のALT(外国語指導助手)として、町内の小・中学校、保育園だけでなく、社会教育の分野においても、英語学習や国際理解教育の場で熱心に取り組んでこられました。
7月末で任期を終え、帰国の途に就かれます。英語は当然のこと、日本人顔負けの日本語。茶道・華道・弓道・空手も嗜み、明るく元気でみんなから愛されていたソフィア先生。オーストラリアでのご活躍と、阿武町でまた会えることを願っています。

■阿武小2年　里川香蓮(さとかわかれん)・桂美結(かつらみゆ)
ピコピコハンマーでカルタをしたとき、ソフィア先生がやさしく教えてくれたので、好きになりました。ばくだんゲームも楽しかったです。もっと、いろいろなことをしたかったです。ソフィア先生、ありがとうございました。オーストラリアでも元気でね。

■福賀小5年　山本真護(やまもとしんご)・6年　平田雫月妃(ひらたしづき)
ソフィア先生の授業がいつも楽しみでした。伝言ゲームが楽しかったです。昼休みに一緒に遊んだことも心に残っています。ソフィア先生は足が速く、全校のみんなと「かわり鬼」をしたときは、スリルがあって面白かったです。楽しく教えてくださって本当にありがとうございました。ソフィア先生との思い出は、忘れません。

ソフィア先生、いつも私たちにわかりやすく、楽しく教えてくださってありがとうございました。クリスマスなどの行事やさまざまな国について写真を使って教えてくださったので、外国の文化について知ることができました。私たちも、これからの学校生活をがんばるので、ソフィア先生もお体に気をつけてがんばってください。ありがとうございました。

■Thank you so much for having me, everyone.
When I came to Abu town about three years ago, it was at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. I was very nervous about being away from my family and living in an unfamiliar place during such an uncertain and
dangerous time.
However, thanks to the warm welcome I received from the students and townspeople of Abu town, my fears soon faded. Despite the fact that many activities and events were downsized or cancelled, I was still able to create many unforgettable memories.
On the day I arrived in Abu after two weeks of quarantine, there was a festival at the roadside station. There were delicious food stalls and all sorts of friendly people chatting to me, and there was even a fireworks display! Even though it was winter, the glittering, inviting atmosphere was so heart-warming after the solitude of two weeks’ quarantine. Abu couldn’t have given a better first impression!
English conversation classes with the townspeople, lively and adorable events at the nursery,snowball fights with the students, and making Australian chicken parmigiana,are all precious memories for me.
Being able to set up a postcard exchange project with the junior high school students to interact with people from all over the world, is something I am truly proud of. I hope that the children and townspeople of Abu will continue to connect with people from different places and expand their horizons.
Thank you for allowing me into your classrooms and your town. I will continue to cherish my connection with Abu town. If you ever come to Australia, please get in touch!
