■長崎旅行
Hello everyone, Rachael here! I want to talk about Golden Week. Before I came to Japan, I didn’t know what Golden Week was. I had no idea how many holidays were celebrated this time of year!
I decided to visit Nagasaki City because I love history. I learned about Dejima Island where the Portugues and Dutch could trade goods, and how important the city was in the modernization of Japan during and after the Meiji Restoration. I also visited many sad places, such as the grave of the 26 Christian martyrs and the Atomic Bomb Museum. Truthfully, I cried the whole time I was in the museum. War is such a horrible thing. Lastly, I saw the Nagasaki Peace Statue. I never knew how significant this memorial was. The right arm pointing up to remember the devastation of the bomb, the left arm pointing to peace, the right leg in meditation, and the left leg ready to stand and protect the peace in this world.
I was deeply moved by everything I saw and learned on this trip. I am thankful I was able to enjoy Golden Week in Japan!

みなさん、こんにちは。レイチェルです!ゴールデンウィーク(GW)について話したいと思います。日本に来る前GWについて知りませんでした。1年のこの時期にこんなにたくさんの祝日があるなんて驚きです!
私は、歴史が大好きなので長崎に旅行することにしました。出島ではポルトガルとオランダとの貿易があったこと、そしてそれが明治時代とその後の日本の近代文化にとても重要であったと学びました。また、いくつかの悲しい場所も訪問しました。26人のクリスチャン殉教者の墓石(二十六聖人殉教地)や原爆資料館です。私は資料館にいる間ずっと涙が止まりませんでした。戦争は本当に悲惨です。そして最後に長崎平和祈念像を観に行きました。私はこの像がいかに重要な意味を教えているか初めて知りました。右腕は原爆の荒廃を指し示し、左腕は平和を指し、右足は静けさを、左足は世界の平和のために立ち上がる用意ができていること示していると学びました。
この旅で見てきたことや勉強したことに深く感動しました。日本のGWをこのように過ごせたことをうれしく思います。
