皆様、こんにちは。

今月は、先月起こった日食についてお話しようと思います!アメリカでは大規模なイベントだったので、とても刺激的な写真がたくさんありました。この日食は特別でした。なぜなら、米国の大部分の上空を通過したからです。太陽が完全に隠れる日食の経路(「皆既経路」と呼ばれます)の長さは175km以上でした。その道のほとんどは米国の南側と東側を越えていたため、多くの人がそれを見ることができました。

しかし、日食は一見危険である可能性があります。特別なメガネを購入するか、太陽の像を地面に投影するにはレンズを使用する必要があります。通常のサングラスで太陽を見ると失明する可能性があります。次回の日本での日食は2030年6月1日と予測されており、北海道にさしかかります。それに合わせて素敵な北海道旅行をしたいと思っています。

This month, I thought I’d talk about the solar eclipse that happened last month! It was a huge event in the United States, and there were some very cool pictures! This eclipse was special, because it passed over a really large part of the United States. The path of the eclipse where the sun is completely covered, (it’s called the“ path of totality”), was over 175 km long! Most of that path was over the south and east side of the United States, so many people could see it.

However, eclipses can be deceptively dangerous. You need to buy special glasses, or use a lens to project an image of the sun onto the ground. If you look at the sun with normal sunglasses, you can go blind! The next solar eclipse in Japan is predicted for June 1st, 2030, it will cross Hokkaido directly! I’m hoping to take a nice Hokkaido vacation at that time.
