■Stepping outside my comfort zone
Growing up, I spent my entire life in Cebu, Philippines. Cebu is a popular tourist destination because of its magnificent beaches, natural beauty, delicious food and friendly people. I can’t refute why it’s famous because it’s true that it’s a must-see destination in the Philippines.
As time passed, I grew to like watching YouTube videos, particularly travel vlogs. I’m constantly curious about life outside the Philippines. So I started my baby steps, teaching English online to students abroad, but when I met largely Japanese students, they always said, “Come and visit Japan”. So that’s when my dream started to take shape. “The first country I want to visit is Japan.” I stated this in 2018. And now, in 2023, my dream has finally come true.
Diving into a new culture, learning a new language, moving to a new country and trying things that I am unfamiliar with, are not simple. I’ve been in Japan for four months now, which has been challenging. Although it can be difficult at times, this experience has also brought about some of my best life moments.
So far, these are some of the highlights of my time here in Japan, I tried nagashi somen, first hike in Katasoneyama in Funehiki, learned how to cook curry and rice, tried to wear Yukata, experienced first spring, visited Abukuma Cave and Jupia Land Hirata, had my first ramen and sushi, bon dance and lastly Hanabi Festival in Iwaki. I’m aware that I’ve visited a few locations in Fukushima. I can’t wait to discover more of Hirono Town.
That’s all I’ve got for now. What about your dream country? Where would you like to go? What do you expect? I wish that everyone achieves their goals, whether in Japan or elsewhere.

■コンフォートゾーンから踏み出す
私は幼い頃からずっとフィリピンのセブ島で過ごしました。セブ島は、壮大なビーチ、自然の美しさ、おいしい食べ物、そしてフレンドリーな人々のため、人気の観光地です。ここがフィリピンで必見の目的地であることは事実なので、なぜ有名なのかは否定できません。
時間が経つにつれて、私はYouTubeの動画で、特に旅行のvlogを見るのが好きになりました。私はフィリピン以外の生活にいつも興味があります。私は海外の学生にオンラインで英語を教え始めるようになりました。多くの日本人学生に会いましたが、彼らはいつも「日本に遊びに来て」と言っていました。それで私の夢が形になり始めたのです。2018年に「私が最初に訪れたい国は日本だ。」と考えました。そして2023年の今、私の夢はついに実現したのです。
新しい文化に飛び込み、新しい言語を学び、新しい国に移住し、なじみのないことに挑戦することは簡単ではありません。日本に来て4ヶ月になりますが、大変な日々でした。時には難しいこともありますが、この経験は私に人生最高の瞬間をもたらしてくれました。
これまでの日本滞在のハイライトは、流しそうめん、船引の片曽根山での初ハイキング、カレーライスの作り方を習ったこと、浴衣を着たこと、初めて春という季節を体験したこと、あぶくま洞窟とジュピアランド平田を訪れたこと、初めてのラーメンと寿司を食べたこと、盆踊り、そしていわきの花火大会を楽しんだことです。私が訪れたのは、福島県内のほんの一部の場所だと思います。広野町をもっと知るのが待ちきれません。
今のところ私が持っているのはこれだけです。あなたが夢に見ている国はどうでしょうか?どこに行きたいですか?何を期待していますか?日本でも他の国でも、誰もが目標を達成できることを願っています。
