■New year’s Eve in Canada.(カナダの大晦日)

”Dear Showa Village’s residents, I would like to tell you about how we spend New year’s Eve in Canada.
Canada is a multicultural country where families of different background, religions and ethnicity reside.
Thus, the new year celebration varies from each household to the other.
However, there are various common ground customs and traditions that are practiced by almost all families.
Some people go away from the noise of the city to family fishing trips or set out to see the northern lights.
It is also common to invite all relatives and close friends for the celebration to one’s house.
Souper would generally include Turkey, mashed potatoes, salad, wine, and champagne to celebrate.
And al throughout the country large outside parties on the streets are organized with entertainment, music, dancing, and fireworks.
It is tradition to prepare the New Year’s resolutions to set goals for the incoming year.
On my part, my family usually receives people at home, and it is tradition they all stay sleeping at home (because the party usually finishes at 6 Am).
Then, we all prepare a traditional Colombian soup “Sancocho” on January 1st and have a very pleasant day afterwards full of music, conversation, and laughter.
We also write our new year’s resolutions and keep them in a secure but visible place to be reminded of what we need to always focus on.”

昭和村の皆さん、カナダでの大晦日の過ごし方についてお話したいと思います。
カナダは多文化国家であり、さまざまな背景、宗教、民族の家族が暮らしているので、新年の祝い方は各家庭によって異なります。
しかし、ほぼ全ての家族が行っている共通の習慣や恒例行事もさまざまあります。
都会の喧噪を離れて家族で釣りに出かけたり、オーロラを見に出かける人もいます。
親戚や親しい友人を自宅に招いてお祝いをすることも一般的です。
スーパーには、七面鳥、マッシュポテト、サラダ、ワイン、お祝いのシャンパンなどが並びます。
そして、全国各地で、エンターテイメント、音楽、ダンス、花火など、屋外での大規模なパーティーが催されます。
新年度の目標をたて、新年の抱負を考えることも恒例です。
私の家族の場合は、通常自宅に人々を迎え、みんなで私の家で寝ます。(パーティーはたいてい午前6時に終わるので)。
そして、1月1日にみんなでコロンビアの伝統的なスープ「サンコチョ」※を作り、その後は音楽、会話、笑い声に満ちたとても楽しい一日を過ごします。
また、新年の抱負を書き、ずっと忘れないように自分だけが見て確認できるところにしまっておきます。
