■Winters in Quebec(ケベックの冬)

Dear Showa Village’s residents, I would like to tell you about the Winters in Quebec.
The coldest temperature recorded in Canada was in Yukon and was of -62.8℃ in 1947.
There is a wide variety of climate in Canada due to the large latitudinal extend of the country. When I moved to Canada I arrived to Quebec. Both official languages are spoken but French is the main spoken language.
It is the largest province by area and the second largest by population.
Before arriving there, I had not seen snow before.
I was used to temperatures from 30 to 35℃ all year round.
I arrived in Canada in November where the temperatures in Quebec start reaching -4 to -7℃.
Then in January and February when the cold reaches its peak, the temperatures can reach from -25 to -35℃.
Is the time when people avoid going out unnecessarily.
Even though it is very cold, Quebeckers go on about their life as usual.
Inside houses there’s a central AC system that keeps houses warm at all times.
Though it is easy to endure it while inside, when you go outside some very particular things could happen.
Once I went outside with my hair wet and when I touched my hair it broke.
It wasn’t funny at the time, but now when I think about that it is quite hilarious.
Also, if you stick your tongue to a frozen pole outside it could remain frozen.
My friend tried that, and I can tell you that he regreted it! Please never try it.

昭和村の皆さん、ケベックの冬についてお話ししたいと思います。
カナダで記録された最低気温は、1947年ユーコンの-62.8℃でした。
カナダは緯度が広いので、気候もさまざまです。
私はカナダのケベックに移住しました。
ケベックでは英語とフランス語2つの公用語がありますが、主に話されているのはフランス語です。カナダ10州のうち最も面積が広大で、人口は第2位です。

その時は全く笑えませんでしたが、今思うと、とても可笑しいです。
また、外で凍った棒に舌をくっつけると、凍ったまま舌に張り付いて取れなくなる場合があります。
友人はそれを試しましたが、後悔していました!絶対にやらないでください。
