■免田小学校はいつも楽しいです!
As an ALT, one of my schools is Menda Elementary School.It’s the biggest elementary school in Asagiri, which means I’m very busy! The teachers are kind and helpful (despite also being very busy), and the students are lively and excited-when I pass them in the hallway, they always shout “Hello!”
Elementary school in Japan is quite different fromAmerica. For example, Japanese students eat kyuushoku in their classroom, US students of all grades would bring their own lunch and eat together in the cafeteria. Another very surprising part of Japanese schools was the cleaning time. I couldn’t believe that the students here help clean the school every day, and they even help serve lunch at lunchtime.
I was also surprised by the number and variety of clubs at Menda Elementary School! My elementary school did not have clubs, so it was interesting to see that the students here can make their own clubs for whatever they want, ranging from common sports clubs to more niche interests like otaku culture or fishing. I always have fun at Menda Elementary School, and I am glad I have the chance to be an ALT here!

ALTとして、私が担当する学校の1つは免田小学校です。あさぎり町で1番大きな小学校ですから、とても忙しいです!先生方も勿論忙しいですが、いつも面倒見が良くて優しいです。子ども達は元気で生き生きとしていて、廊下ですれ違うたびに、大声で「ハロー!」と言ってくれます。
日本の小学校はアメリカといろんな違いがあります。例えば、日本では教室で給食を食べますが、アメリカではそれぞれが昼ごはんを持ってきて、カフェテリアで全学年一緒に食べます。もう1つ大変驚いたことは、掃除の時間です。子ども達が毎日学校を掃除することが信じられませんでした。給食の準備を自分たちですることにも驚きました。
私はまた、免田小学校のクラブ活動の数の多さと、その多様性に驚きました!私の小学校にはクラブ活動が全くありませんでした。だから、普通のスポーツクラブからオタククラブや釣りクラブまで、子ども達がやりたいクラブを作ることができると知り、素晴らしいと思いました。免田小学校はいつも楽しいです。ここのALTになれたことをうれしく思います。
