Hello and happy springtime to everyone! Spring is my favoritetime of year, and I am happy to enjoy the beautiful weather andspend lots of time outside. The picture you see from this month iswhen I got to visit Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki for my friend’sbirthday. I read that there were 5.3 million nemophila fl owers thisyear, and it looked like a whole ocean of flowers. When I wasa child in Texas, we had similar flowers called bluebonnets thatcovered the plains all around where I grew up, and Hitachi Seaside Park reminded me ofseeing bluebonnets in Texas. However, bluebonnets are a dark blue, almost purple color sothey look very different from nemophila, which are the color of the sky.
I have also enjoyed getting to explore Hokkaido in the springtime. While I have seen somecherry blossoms on the mainland, my favorite have been right here around Aibetsu andAsahikawa! I think that it is a little funny that even now I can still fi nd small piles of snow hiding when I go on walks to enjoy thenice weather and see the new fl owers blooming.

皆さんこんにちは、楽しい春ですね!春は1年で一番好きな季節です。美しい天気を楽しみ、外でたくさんの時間を過ごすことができるのでとても嬉しいです。この写真は、友人の誕生日に茨城県の国営ひたち海浜公園へ行ったときのものです。今年は530万本のネモフィラが咲いたと聞きましたが、まるで花の海のようでした。私が子どもの頃、テキサスではブルーボネットと呼ばれる似たような花が私の育った地域一面に咲いていました。国営ひたち海浜公園を見てテキサスのブルーボネットを思い出しました。しかし、ブルーボネットは紫に近い濃い青色なので、空のような色をしているネモフィラとはかなり違って見えます。
また、春の北海道観光も楽しかったです。本州でもいくつかの桜を見てきましたが、私のお気に入りはここ愛別と旭川周辺です。天気が良く、新しい花が咲いているのを楽しみに散歩に行くと、今でも小さな雪のかたまりを見つけることができ、少し面白く感じます。
