Hello, it’s Diego!
This August marks the end of my first year of living here in Ikawa. It’s been an awesome year where I made many unforgettable memories! While I may be working in Ikawa to teach English and share my culture (Philippine and American), I feel that I am the one who is always getting taught by my lovely students, great work colleagues and warm-hearted locals. Summer is the season where most ALTs at the end of their contract say their farewells and go back home. It is also the season where ALTs from all over the world begin their adventure in Japan. Watching all this unfold before my eyes reminds me that not many people get the chance to live in a foreign country for an extended period of time. While I’m here, I will not take even a single day for granted.

こんにちは、ディエゴです!
この8月で、井川に住み始めて一年目が終わりました。忘れられない思い出がたくさんできたすごい一年でした!私は井川で英語を教え、自分の文化(フィリピンとアメリカ)を分かち合うために働いているかもしれませんが、素敵な生徒たちや素晴らしい仕事仲間、心温かい地元の人たちにいつも教えてもらっているのは自分自身だと感じています。夏は、契約期間が終了したALTの多くが別れを告げて帰国する季節です。また、世界中のALTが日本での冒険を始める季節でもあります。目の前で繰り広げられるこのような光景を見ていると、外国で長期間生活する機会を得られる人はそう多くはないのだということを思い知らされます。ここにいる間は、一日たりとも当たり前のことを当たり前だとは思わないようにします。
