●Education System
Kamusta! Did you enjoy February? What did you do? The 3rd grade junior high school students graduated! When I told my friends that the students have alread y graduated, they were a bit confused as the education system from elementary to high school in the Philippines is different.
This will be our topic for this month. We are going to talk abo ut the education system in the Philippines. Japan’ s elementary school year has 6 years. It’ s the same in my country. However, junior high school and high school systems in the Philippines a re different. When I was a student, there wasn’ t a junior high school. It was high school after elementary school. And high school had only 4 years. Now, junior high school has 4 years, and an extra 2 years in senior high school. Unlike the education system in Japan, you can become a repeater studen t if you don’ t satisfy the conditions of the school until the end of the school year. Your grades in school determine your future. If you pass, you will step up to the next school year. If you fail, you will do the same year or course all over again. I had classmates who were older than I was. Different age groups of students were placed in the same classroom. Some were older, and some were younger. Repeater students had different reasons why they repeated but, in the end, we were all just students trying to finish school.

●フィリピンの教育制度
カムスタ!皆様、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。奥大山江府学園では9年生が卒業しました。フィリピンは日本と教育制度が違うので、学校のことを友達に話すと友達は少し戸惑っていました。これが今月のトピックになります。フィリピンの教育制度についてお話したいと思います。日本の小学校(前期課程)は6年間です。これはフィリピンでも同様です。しかし、中学校(後期課程)と高校の制度が異なります。私が学生だった頃は、日本における中学校(後期課程)がありませんでした。小学校(前期課程)を卒業したら高校が始まり、その高校は4年間しかありませんでした。現在のフィリピンでは、小学校(前期課程)の後に中学校(後期課程)の4年間と高校の2年間があります。
フィリピンの小学校(前期課程)や中学校(後期課程)では、日本と違い条件を満たさなければ留年します。そして、学校での成績は学生の将来に影響します。学生は進級できれば、次の学年にステップアップします。留年になると、同じコースをやり直すことになります。私のクラスメートには年上の人もいました。異なる年齢層の生徒が同じ教室にいるのです。年上の人もいれば、年下の人もいました。フィリピンで留年する理由は様々でしたが、皆、学校を卒業しようと頑張っていました。
