●Facts about the Philippines
Kumusta! How’ s life been for you? Do you have any plans for this summer vacation? I went to a Filipino party last month with a few Japanese friends. They were surprised by how different Filipinos were from Japanese during the party. One of them asked me about the differences bet ween the two. This is what I’ d like to talk about for this month. I’ m going to tell you 3 interesting facts about the Philippines or Filipinos.
1.Filipino Time
One fact that might confuse foreigners is the concept of “Filip ino Time” . While punctuality is valued and prioritized worldwide, in the Philippines, it’ s understood that events might not start exactly on time. It’ s important to note that this isn’ t a sign of disrespect or laziness. Experts suggest that this m ay stem from the country’ s laid back island life and a desire to be flexible and accommod ating. However, this may not apply when it comes formal events.
2.Filipinos love to sing.
Singing is an important part of a Filipino’s daily life. Filipinos sing whenever they have the chance, such as while cleaning or cooking. The best part is that when you start singi ng, if people nearby recognize what you’re singing, they’ll start singing along with you. This is why many Filipinos are regarded as talented singers.
3.Many Filipinos can play the guitar
Due to the fact that music is vital for Filipinos, it’ s not surprising that many of us good guitar players. The guita r is a great instrument for Filipinos as it can deliver very emotional or romantic sounds. When I was in high school, each classroom had at least 3-5 students who could play the guitar.

カムスタ!皆様いかがお過ごしでしょうか。今年の夏休みの予定はありますでしょうか。先月、私は日本人の友達とフィリピン人のパーティーに行きました。彼らはパーティーでフィリピン人と日本人の違いに驚いていました。今月はこのことについてお話ししたいと思います。フィリピンやフィリピン人に関する3つの興味深い事柄をお伝えします。
1.フィリピノタイム
外国人の方が混乱するかもしれないことの1つは、「フィリピノタイム」です。時間厳守は世界中で評価され優先されていますが、フィリピンではイベントが時間通りに始まらないことが共通認識としてあります。これは礼儀知らずや怠惰であるということではないということをご理解いただきたいと思います。これはフィリピンという国ののんびりとした生活と、他人に対して柔軟で親切でありたいというフィリピン人の思いが関係しているのだろうといわれています。ただし、フォーマルなイベントの場合はこの限りではありません。
2.フィリピン人は歌うのが大好き
歌うことはフィリピン人の日常生活の重要な部分です。フィリピン人は、掃除中や料理中など機会があればいつでも歌います。一番良いのは、歌い始めると、近くにいる人が歌っていることに気づくと、一緒に歌い始めることです。そのため、多くのフィリピン人は歌が上手いと思われています。
3.多くのフィリピン人はギターを弾くことができます
フィリピン人にとって音楽は欠かせないものなので、私たちの多くが優れたギタリストであることは驚くことではありません。ギターは、非常に感情的またはロマンチックなサウンドを提供できるため、フィリピン人にとって素晴らしい楽器です。私が高校生の頃、各教室にギターを弾ける生徒が3～5人以上はいました。
