People give chocolates to　someone they really like, as well as to friends, classmates, and people they appreciate.The main difference is that America focuses on exchanging cards and celebrating　friendships, while in Japan, the tradition centers on giving chocolates, and the meaning　of the chocolate depends on the relationship.
