It’ s finally July, which marks my 12th month in Japan! I arrived last August. Over the past year, I’ ve had the chance to experience many aspects of Japanese culture and daily life, some of w hich I would never have encountered in New Zealand. During this time, I’ ve made many friends, met wonderful colleagues and students,and overall, I’ ve really enjoyed my time here. Now that summer is approaching, students will be on their summer holidays, and I’ m quite curious about what they and their families usually do during this season. Please share with me what you would do during your summer holidays In New Zealand, we often spend summer at the beach, swimming, surfing, going on road trips, camping, hiking, or enjoying barbecues with friends and family. We like to go on road trips with camper vans, it is a vehicle that combines transportation and temporary living space, so we travel and sleep on in the same vehicle. Please check the pictures!
Our summer holidays are at a different time since our seasons are opposite to Japan’s. For junior high school students, summer break is usually from mid-December to late January or early February, about 5 to 6 weeks.
High school students have a longer break from mid-to-late November to late January or early February, around two months. University students get the longest break, from late October or early November to mid-to-late February, about three months, which is when many of us take on part-time jobs. If you have any recommendations on where to go or what to do during summer in Japan, please let me know. I’d love to hear it!
ついに7月になりました!これで日本に来てから12か月目になります。私は昨年の8月に日本に来ました。この1年間で、ニュージーランドでは体験できないような日本の文化や日常生活をたくさん経験することができました。この期間にたくさんの友達や素敵な同僚、学生たちと出会い、毎日がとても楽しく、充実しています。
もうすぐ夏休みの時期になりますね。学生の皆さんやそのご家族は、夏休みに普段どんなことをして過ごすのか、とても気になっています。ぜひ、皆さんが夏休みにすることを教えてください!ニュージーランド人はよくキャンピングカーでロードトリップに行きます。移動も寝るのも同じ車でできるから、すごく便利なんです!写真もぜひ見てみてくださいね!
ニュージーランドでは、夏はよくビーチに行って泳いだり、サーフィンをしたり、ドライブ旅行やキャンプ、ハイキングを楽しんだり、家族や友達とバーベキューをしたりして過ごします。ニュージーランドは日本と季節が逆なので、夏休みの時期も異なります。中学生は12月中旬から1月下旬または2月初旬まで、約5～6週間の夏休みがあります。高校生は11月中旬～下旬から1月下旬または2月初旬まで、約2か月間の休みがあります。大学生は10月下旬または11月上旬から2月中旬～下旬までの約3か月間が夏休みで、その間に多くの学生がアルバイトをします。
