Hello! I’m Tabina. I work at Gyokunan Junior High school, Hakka, Ikura, and Takamichi Elementary Schools. I moved to Japan last year. Ever since I arrived in Tamana, there have been so many opportunities to explore through festivals. One of the first festivals I went to shortly after arriving here was the summer festival at Hakka elementary school. I instantly felt welcomed by my students and their families!  They shared their food recommendations for the food stalls and were excited to show me their dance performances. They also wanted me to cheer them on at the speed eating and drinking competitions. School festivals like these aren’t as common in America so I’ve really enjoyed them so far and it’s been a great start to my life in Tamana.
On Long Island where I’m from, we have a big festival called the Strawberry Festival. There are many different food stalls and you can also have strawberry desserts like strawberry shortcake and chocolate covered strawberries.There’s also carnival ride andlive music performances. There’s also a food eating contest to see who can eat the most strawberry shortcakes the fastest! . Festivals are a great way to have fun and explore a new place!

こんにちは!タビーナです。玉南中学校、八嘉小学校、伊倉小学校、高道小学校で働いています。昨年日本に引っ越しました。玉名に来てから、お祭りを通してたくさんのことを学ぶ機会がありました。来日してすぐに行った最初のお祭りの1つが、八嘉小学校の夏祭りでした。私はすぐに児童たちとその家族に歓迎されていると感じました!彼らは屋台のおすすめを教えてくれたり、ダンスを見せてくれたりしました。早食い競争や早飲み競争でも応援してほしいと言われました。アメリカではこのような学園祭はあまりないので、本当に楽しかったし、玉名での生活の素晴らしいスタートになりました。
私の出身地であるロングアイランドでは、ストロベリーフェスティバルという大きなお祭りがあります。いろいろな屋台が出て、イチゴのショートケーキやチョコレートがけイチゴなどイチゴのデザートを食べられます。また、カーニバルの乗り物や音楽の生演奏もあります。ショートケーキを誰が一番早く食べられるかを競うコンテストもあります!お祭りは楽しみながら新しい場所を探検するのに最適な方法です!
