Hello everyone, One of my favorite times of the year is fall, and it is fi nally here. This fall, I have been able to enjoy the beautiful sights in places like Asahidake, and all around Aibetsu and Hokkaido–the picture is from when Connor and I went to hike on Asahidake to see the wonderful colors and soak our feet in Nakadake onsen.
One of the joys of autumn in America is the taste. Our most traditional fl avors for fall are apple and pumpkin.
People will often go apple picking or to a pumpkin farm to choose a pumpkin to carve into jack o lantern to put outside their house.
In old times, people believed jack o lanterns would scare away evil spirits on Halloween, but now we just like to use them to decorate.
One of the most famous uses for pumpkins in food in America is for pumpkin pie, which we eat on Thanksgiving in November. Thanksgiving is where many families will travel to be together and cook a big meal with foods we usually only eat once a year. Traditionally, you eat roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, and different regional side dishes depending on where your family is from in America. And, of course, almost everyone eats pumpkin pie. My family has a special pumpkin pie recipe that does not require baking, and it is extra delicious.

皆さん、こんにちは。いよいよ私の一番好きな季節である秋がやってきました。今年の秋は、旭岳をはじめ、愛別町や北海道各地で素晴らしい景色を楽しむことができました。今回の写真は、コナーと旭岳のハイキングに行って景色を見たり、中岳温泉の足湯を堪能したときのものです。
アメリカでの秋の楽しみの一つは、味覚です。秋の最も伝統的な食べ物はリンゴとカボチャです。多くの人々はリンゴ狩りに行ったり、カボチャ農園に行って、ジャック・オー・ランタンを作るためのカボチャを選び、家の外に置きます。昔は、ジャック・オー・ランタンがハロウィンに悪霊を追い払うと信じられていましたが、今ではただ飾り付けとして使われています。アメリカでカボチャが食品として使われる最も有名な料理の一つは、11月の感謝祭で食べるパンプキンパイです。感謝祭では、多くの家族が一緒に旅行し、年に一度しか食べない食べ物を使って豪華な食事を作ります。伝統的な料理として、ローストターキー、クランベリーソース、そして家族の出身地に応じた様々な地域ごとのおかずを食べます。私の家族には、焼く必要のない特別なパンプキンパイのレシピがあり、とてもおいしいです。
