■How your town’s ALT gets hired!
あなたの町のALT(外国語指導助手)はどうやって採用されるのか!

Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) can be hired in different ways. Many are hired directly by the Japanese government through the JET Programme. The JET Programme invited people from around the world to participate in international exchanges in Japan and to be involved in foreign language education in schools.
The JET Programme application has two main stages： document submission and an interview.
First, the Embassy of Japan in each country posts announcements oline when applications open. In the first stage, applicants collect and submit many documents to the embassy. One of the most important documents is an essay explaining why we want to come to Japan and why we want to become an ALT.
Second, after submitting, we wait until around January to know if our application passed. The next stage is the interview, which usually takes place in February. In the Philippines, candidates also have to give a short teaching demonstration.
Finally, t he successful candidates leave for Japan at t he end of July. A LTs in t he JET Programme do not choose where they go so it is always a surprise! I am very happy and thankful that my home in Japan is here with you, where the people have a kind heart and the nature and scenery is very beautiful.

外国語指導助手(ALT)の採用方法は様々です。多くは、JETプログラムを通じて日本政府に直接採用されています。JETプログラムは、世界中から日本に来たALTを招き、日本での国際交流や学校での外国語教育に携わってもらうことを目的としています。
JETプログラムの応募は、主に書類提出と面接の2段階に分かれています。
まず、各国の日本大使館は、応募受付開始時にオンラインで告知します。
第一段階では、応募者は多くの書類を集め、大使館に提出します。最も重要な書類の一つは、なぜ日本に来たいのか、そしてなぜALTになりたいのかを説明したエッセイです。
第二段階として、提出後、1月頃まで応募が通るかどうかを待ちます。次の段階は面接で、通常2月に行われます。フィリピンでは、応募者は短い教育実演も行う必要があります。
最後に、合格者は7月末に日本へ出発します。JETプログラムのALTは行き先を選べないので、いつもサプライズです!皆さんが親切な心を持ち、自然と景色がとても美しいこの町で、日本での私の故郷がここにあることをとても嬉しく、感謝しています。
