Hello everyone, It is a little late, but Happy New Year!
While I did not celebrate the new year in Japan this year, I was able to go home to celebrate one final Christmas and New Year in California with my family, because they are moving all the way to Florida in 2025 for my father’s new job. It was a lot of fun to see my family, friends, and loved ones!
I even got to go to the San Diego zoo for the fi rst time, but I actually like the Asahikawa zoo here in Hokkaido better!
We celebrated the new year the night before I fl ew back to Japan. In America, new year traditions are very different than in Japan. Many people stay up until midnight together to celebrate the new year as soon as it comes and set off fi reworks at 12：01. Usually, there is a big countdown of the fi nal minute before the new year, and when it comes everyone says “Happy New Year” and gives a toast.
This year, I celebrated with my family and boyfriend, playing board games and making homemade pizza. Then they helped me pack so I could come back to Japan a few hours later. I had a great end to 2024, and I am happy to be in Aibetsu for 2025! As always, I am happy to chat if you see me around town.
皆さんこんにちは。そして、少し遅くなりましたが、あけましておめでとうございます!今年は日本で新年を祝えませんでしたが、父の再就職の関係で2025年にフロリダへ引っ越す予定なので、カリフォルニアで家族と一緒に最後のクリスマスと新年を祝うために帰省することができました。家族、友人、恋人に会えてとても楽しかったです。サンディエゴの動物園にも行きましたが、北海道の旭山動物園の方が私は好きです!
私が日本へ戻る前夜、新年をお祝いしました。アメリカの新年の伝統は日本とは大きく異なります。新年を迎えると同時に、夜中の12時1分に花火を打ち上げて祝うため、多くの人が深夜まで一緒に起きています。新年の直前には盛大なカウントダウンがあり、新年が来ると全員が「あけましておめでとうございます」と言って乾杯します。
今年は家族や彼氏と一緒に新年をお祝いし、ボードゲームをしたり、自家製ピザを作ったりしました。その後、彼らは、私が数時間後に日本へ戻ることができるように荷物をまとめるのを手伝ってくれました。2024年は素晴らしい締めくくりでした。2025年も愛別町にいられることを嬉しく思います。いつものように町で見かけたらぜひ話し掛けてください、喜んでお話します。
