くらし 【コナーのコーナー No.18】それでも私は雪が大好き

みなさん、こんにちは。ALTのコナーです。

I hope you all have been safe during this strong Winter. Back in Germany, the snow begins to melt by February. Living in Imabetsu, I think I’ve seen more snow in 2 Aomori Winters than in 22 German Winters! With that said, I’m constantly impressed by how people combat the snow in Aomori.
Everyone works so hard to shovel snow in the mornings； the giant snow blower machines are amazing, too!
この厳しい冬の間、皆さんが安全に過ごせることを願っています。ドイツに戻ると、2月になると雪が溶け始めます。今別町に住んでいると、ドイツの冬22回よりも青森県の冬2回の方が多く雪を見たと思います。そうは言っても、青森県の人々の雪かきにはいつも感銘を受けます。早朝からみんなで一生懸命雪かきをしています。大きな除雪機もすごいですね!

While the snow in Aomori is certainly difficult, I must admit, I still love it. It’s always a pleasant surprise to go outside almost every winter day and realize, “Hey, I can build a snowman today!”
青森県の雪は確かに大変ですが、それでも私は雪が大好きです。ほぼ毎日冬の日に外に出て、「うーん、今日は雪だるまを作れるな」と気づくのは、いつも嬉しい驚きです。

This year, I started snowboarding with my friends in Aomori City. It’s not my first time snowboarding,as I used to practice a little in High School, but I finally feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it. It’s an absolute luxury living so close to the beautiful Mt. Hakkoda and Mt. Iwaki! Back in Germany, my nearest mountain was about a 5-hour drive! I’m not used to receiving casual messages after work like “Hey Conner! Let’s go snowboarding tonight!” While I live in Imabetsu, I hope that I can snowboard as much as possible. Maybe I can learn skiing too!
今年から青森市の友達とスノーボードを始めました。スノーボードは高校時代に少し練習していたので初めてではありませんが、ようやくコツを掴み始めた感じです。美しい八甲田山と岩木山のすぐ近くに住むのは最高の贅沢です!ドイツでは、最寄りの山まで車で約 5 時間かかりました。仕事の後に「ねえ、コナー、今夜スノーボードに行きましょう!」のようなカジュアルなメッセージを受け取ることに慣れていません。今別にいる間はできるだけスノーボードができればと思っています。スキーも習えるかも!

I hope everyone can stay warm during this powerful winter… but I also hope we can still enjoy the beauty of Imabetsu’s winter too. Thank you for reading.
