Kia Ora! Welcome to Yunan’s Corner!!
I am going to introduce some useful New Zealand slang (Young Language) that I often use. We also called it Kiwi slang!
Kiwi slang reflects the informal, friendly, and laid-back nature of the people. These colloquialisms, often influenced by Māori language, have become part of daily life in New Zealand!

1. Sweet as ： To say that everything is fine, or good to go! Similar to “no problem” or “all good”.
Example –
A ： I’ll meet you at the beach later!
B ： Sweet as, see you then.

2. Smoko ： To refer to a break, typically for a snack or a quick rest, especially in the context of work.
Example： It’s smoko time! Let’s grab a coffee and have a quick chat.

3. Kiwi – Commonly used to refer to people from New Zealand. The term comes from the kiwi bird, which is native to New Zealand and a national symbol.
Example： Kiwis are known for being friendly and welcoming.

今回は、ユナンがよく使うニュージーランドのスラング(若者言葉)を三つ紹介します。これを「キウイスラング」とも呼んでいます!
キウイスラングは、ニュージーランドの人々のカジュアルでフレンドリー、そしてリラックスした性格を反映しています。これらの表現は、しばしばマオリ語に影響を受けており、ニュージーランドの日常生活の一部となっています!

1.Sweetas：物事が順調である、問題ない、または大丈夫だという意味です。
例-
A：後でビーチで会おう!
B：Sweetas、じゃあね!

2.Smoko：仕事の合間に軽食や休憩を取ることを指します。
例：「今、smokoタイムだね!コーヒーでも飲みながらちょっとお話ししよう。」

3.Kiwi：ニュージーランドの人々を指す言葉です。キウイ鳥がニュージーランドの象徴であり、その名前から来ています。
例：「キウイたちはフレンドリーで歓迎してくれることで知られています。」
