このコーナーでは、松野町のALT(外国語指導助手)の母国の文化や、松野町での日常などを紹介しています。今回はケイト先生が「幸せの季節」についてお話しします。

◆Season of Happiness
Recently, all Matsuno junior high school students experienced online international exchange classes. Through the online class, they talked with foreign students from Indonesia, South Korea and the Philippines! I was happy to see them enthusiastic to make conversations, especially with Filipino students. They were able to share about themselves and about Japan. In exchange, they learned about Filipino culture, too. Some of the MJHS students also learned some Filipino words like “salamat” which means “thank you”. After that experience, some students expressed interest about visiting the Philippines in the future. I was pleased to hear that. There are a lot of interesting things about my country. For example, we celebrate the longest Christmas season, from the start of September until the first week of January.
One Christmas tradition that I am looking forward to is playing Christmas games with students. In Philippine schools, we always had one day dedicated for a Christmas party where students exchange Christmas gifts, play games and eat delicious foods. This is usually held before their Christmas break, similar to winter break in Japan. I am also looking forward to visiting the Philippines again this year to spend Christmas and the new year celebration with my family.

最近、松野中学校の全校生徒がオンライン国際交流授業を体験しました。オンライン授業を通して、インドネシア、韓国、フィリピンからの留学生と交流しました!特にフィリピンの生徒と積極的に会話をしている様子が見られ、とても嬉しかったです。生徒たちは自分自身のことや日本について話すことができました。その交流を通して、フィリピンの文化についても学ぶことができました。松野中学校の生徒の中には、「ありがとう」を意味する「サラマット」などのフィリピン語を覚えた生徒もいました。この経験を経て、将来フィリピンを訪れたいと話す生徒もいました。そのことを聞いてとても嬉しかったです。私の国には興味深いことがたくさんあります。例えば、フィリピンではクリスマスシーズンが最も長く、9月初旬から1月の第1週まで続きます。
私が楽しみにしているクリスマスの伝統の一つは、生徒たちとクリスマスゲームをすることです。フィリピンの学校では、クリスマスパーティーのために必ず1日が設けられ、生徒たちはクリスマスプレゼントを交換したり、ゲームをしたり、おいしい料理を食べたりします。これは通常、日本の冬休みのように、クリスマス休暇の前に行われます。今年もフィリピンを訪れ、家族とクリスマスと新年を過ごすのを楽しみにしています。皆様にとって幸せな季節となりますように!
