Hello, I’m Matthew Shioshita. I’m the ALT at Tamana Machi Elementary School and Tamana Junior High School.One of my passions is watching and playing sports, especially baseball. I played baseball for twelve years, from elementary school all the way to high school. I remember starting with Tee ball when I was only four years old.My favorite position to play was third base and pitcher. To me, baseball is very much a family activity. My love of the game definitely came from my grandfather, who taught me how to play and always attended all of my games. Every summer my family and I would go see my favorite MLB team, the Colorado Rockies. We liked to go to the Fourth of July game so that we could watch fireworks after the game together. When I was a kid my favorite player was second baseman, Kazuo Matsui. I really enjoyed the community that baseball created. I met some of my best friends through baseball.
Now that I’ve been in Tamana for the last two years, I have really come to appreciate club activities. Even though I don’t play myself, watching my students play baseball, volleyball,handball and any other of the many sports that are at my school, has really amazed me. The passion my students show everyday truly is inspiring. Also, the community and friendships I see my students develop, reminds me of my favorite memories of playing baseball. I really enjoy going to and participating in club activities whenever I’m able to. It always makes me happy to see my students working hard and doing what they’re passionate about.

こんにちは、マシュー潮下です。玉名町小学校と玉名中学校でALTをしています。私が情熱を注いでいるもののひとつに、スポーツ、特に野球を見たりプレーしたりすることがあります。小学校から高校まで12年間、野球をやっていました。わずか4歳でティーボールから始めたのを覚えています。好きなポジションは三塁手と投手でした。私にとって、野球は家族で楽しめる活動です。私が野球を好きになったのは、間違いなく祖父の影響です。祖父は私に野球を教えてくれたし、私の試合にはいつも参加してくれました。毎年夏になると、家族と一緒に大好きなMLBチーム、コロラド・ロッキーズを見に行きました。7月4日の試合は、試合後に一緒に花火を見ることができたので好きでした。子どもの頃、好きだった選手は二塁手の松井稼頭央(まついかずお)でした。野球が生み出すコミュニティが本当に楽しかったです。野球を通じて何人かの親友に出会いました。玉名に来て2年になりますが、部活のありがたみが身にしみて分かります。私自身は野球をしないのですが、生徒たちが野球、バレーボール、ハンドボール、その他たくさんのスポーツをしているのを見て、本当に驚きました。生徒たちが毎日見せる情熱には、本当に感動させられます。また、生徒たちがコミュニティや友情を育んでいるのを見ると、野球をやっていた頃の楽しい思い出を思い出します。できる限りクラブ活動に行き、参加することを本当に楽しんでいます。生徒たちが一生懸命取り組んでいる姿を見ると、いつもうれしくなります。
