みなさん、こんにちは。ALTのコナーです。

I hope you are all doing well. Did you have a good May? Mine has been very exciting!
I got to visit the Junji Ito exhibit I wrote about in last month’s article. Mr. Ito is famous for his incredible detail,using intricate lines and patterns to create an eerie texture to is works. I think many people might recognize his style, even without knowing his name. However, the pages of his manga can sometimes be a little small； it can be easy to miss small detail. So, having the chance to see these famous panels from his manga via the original ink prints gave me a chance to appreciate the art with a newfound clarity and sense of scale. It was an unforgettable experience… although I might want to forget some of the scarier images.
皆さんお元気ですか?5月はいかがお過ごしでしたか?私の5月はとても刺激的でした!先月の広報で紹介した伊藤潤二展に行ってきました。伊藤先生は、緻密な線や模様を巧みに使い、不気味な質感を醸し出す作品で知られています。名前を知らなくても、作風はご存知の方も多いかもしれません。しかし、伊藤先生のマンガはページ数が少なく、細かいディテールを見落としてしまうことも少なくありません。今回は、原画を通して伊藤先生の代表作の数々を拝見し、より深く作品を鑑賞する機会に恵まれました。忘れられない体験でした…もっとも、怖いイメージの作品はいくつか忘れても大丈夫かもしれません。

The highlight of May has been preparing for the Sports Festival. This is my second year, so it is only my second time getting to watch a Japanese-style Sports Festival. In American schools, we have a similar event named “Field Day”, but the size varies between schools； my Field Day experience was more casual and centered around various games played in small teams. In contrast, seeing all of the students split into two large teams has created a very exciting atmosphere. Every day I visit the schools, I can witness the burning passion of Red Team and the illuminating spirit of White Team. It fills me with the determination to face each day with more energy than the last. The only problem is I can’t decide which team to support. Both teams have my students, so I want to root for both teams to win. Maybe… I should root for the secret third team…
5月のハイライトは運動会の準備でした。教師として2年目なので、日本の運動会を見るのは2回目です。アメリカの学校にも「フィールド・デイ」という似たようなイベントがありますが、学校によって規模が異なり、私が経験したフィールド・デイはもっとカジュアルで、少人数のチームに分かれて様々なゲームを楽しむものでした。それとは対照的に、生徒たちが2つの大きなチームに分かれて練習する様子は、とても刺激的な雰囲気でした。毎日学校を訪問するたびに、赤チームの燃えるような情熱と白チームの輝かしい精神を目の当たりにし、毎日前日よりももっと元気に過ごそうと決意が固まります。ただ、どちらのチームを応援するか決められないのが悩みどころです。どちらのチームにも私の生徒がいるので、どちらのチームも勝てるよう応援したいです。もしかしたら…秘密の第3チームを応援しようかな…
